Flocks (Small Groups) – Side by Side

We have a number of different small groups (“mini-flocks”) which meet on Sunday evenings in various homes and at the church to study God’s Word, pray and enjoy fellowship and food together. Flocks are an important way to deepen and strengthen our relationships with one another as we spend time together in discussion, prayer, and fellowship. Visitors are also encouraged to join this informal time of fellowship to get to know the members of the church and what we believe. We typically study one book together each semester (Fall and Spring) with a shorter study in the summer. This spring we are going through Side by Side, by Ed Welch.

The Study

Side by Side (Ed Welch) could best be described as an accessible introduction to biblical counseling.  It’s written from the conviction that every member of Christ’s church is someone who both needs help and is equipped by God to give help.  As Welch writes in the opening pages, we believe “that God is pleased to use ordinary people, ordinary conversations, and extraordinary and wise love to do most of the heavy lifting in His kingdom.”  That is to say, the responsibility and blessing of being an instrument of sanctification in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ is not something reserved just for “the professionals.”  God has designed to use every (ordinary) member of the body to help other members of the body toward the end that we all be conformed more and more into the image of Jesus Christ.  This book aims to help us do that.
